The FCEC and UMC are aware that the lack of transportation or time makes obtaining preventative medical care a challenge for individuals in our community regardless of medical insurance. The lack of these vital resources combined with fear of the Coronavirus is keeping far too many individuals from seeking treatment for controllable health issues like high blood pressure, diabetes, and asthma; resulting in more serious or life-threatening conditions.
Save a trip to the emergency room by visiting the UMC Mobile Unit for treatment of allergies, rashes, earaches, stomach aches, sore throats, burns, muscle strains, and more. UMC medical professionals will also conduct adult wellness checks and screenings for high blood pressure, HIV, diabetes, kidney disease, and more. For those in need of follow up care, UMC professionals will connect patients to primary care physicians, specialists, social workers, and other community resources.
This initiative is being underwritten by the DC Hope Grant, which is also supporting the FCEC in its expansion of production and distribution of face-masks for free to residents in Ward 7, 8 & 5. The initial focus is on seniors and their household members. The FCEC has already delivered close to 1,000 masks, orders can be placed here
